1.THE WORLD'S GOLDEN SILK

Assam is the world's largest producer of Muga silk.

The Assam Directorate of Sericulture explicitly states that Assam is the largest producer of Muga silk in the world and that Assam contributes about 95% of India's Muga production.

Muga silk is a rare, naturally golden silk. It is especially valued for its durability, glossy texture, and distinctive golden sheen.

2.Home to One-Horned Rhino

Assam is home to around two-thirds of the world's greater one-horned rhinos

The Assam Forest & Environment Department describes Assam as the last stronghold of the Indian one-horned rhino, with more than 2,000 in the wild in the cited government material.

3. Assam holds a Guinness World Record for the largest Bihu dance

Guinness World Records records 11,298 participants in the largest Bihu dance, achieved by the State of Assam in Guwahati on 14 April 2023.

Bihu dance is a traditional folk dance of Assam, performed especially during Rongali (Bohag) Bihu, the Assamese spring festival.It celebrates spring, fertility, youth, love, and Assamese culture.

 

4.THE WORLD'S LARGEST DHOL ENSEMBLE

2,651 drummers.

Assam created a Guinness World Records title for the largest dhol drum ensemble during its 2023 Bihu celebrations.

During the 2023 Bihu celebrations, Assam brought together 2,651 dhol players in Guwahati.

5. Charaideo is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The sacred burial mounds of the Ahom dynasty were created over centuries, transforming the landscape into a remarkable cultural and spiritual site.

6.MAJULI —one of the world's great river islands

Shaped by the mighty Brahmaputra, Majuli is one of Assam's most remarkable cultural landscapes.

It was made India's first island district in June 2016 (carved out from Jorhat district).

Majuli is slowly shrinking due to regular flooding and erosion.
